Putting Things Right

If something needs putting right, tell us. Chasing it is our job, not yours.

The short version

If something needs putting right, tell us. Chasing it is our job.

Most problems on a building project start as a communication problem: a question nobody answers, a date that drifts, a snag that sits there. Getting answers is what we do, and that does not stop when the work is finished.

Your workmanship warranty is provided by your contractor, a minimum of 12 months across our network and often longer on larger works. When something is covered by it, we make sure your contractor hears about it and deals with it.

What we do

How we escalate

  1. You tell us

By phone or email. Describe what is wrong and, if you can, send photographs.

  2. We contact your contractor

We raise it with them on your behalf and push for a visit and a resolution.

  3. We keep at it

We follow up until something happens, and we keep you updated rather than leaving you to chase.

  4. Contractors who fail are removed

A contractor who does not put their work right does not stay in our network. That has happened, and it is the sanction we have.

Where responsibility sits

The warranty is your contractor's

Your construction contract is with your contractor, so the workmanship warranty and any claim for defective work sit with them. The exact terms are set by your contractor and confirmed in your quotation.

The warranty is provided by that company, so it depends on the company continuing to trade. That is true of any contractor you hire directly as well, and we would rather you knew it before you commit.

Checking contractors before they join the network reduces the risk of ending up with the wrong one. It does not remove it, which is exactly why escalation is part of what we do.

Straight answers

Questions about putting things right

My contractor has stopped responding. What do I do?

Tell us. Getting hold of contractors is the most common problem in construction and the main reason we exist. We chase on your behalf.

How long is the warranty?

Every contractor in our network agrees to a minimum 12-month workmanship warranty. Larger works such as full replacements usually carry longer. The exact terms are in your quotation.

Does Mortaro guarantee the work?

No. The warranty is your contractor's. What we provide is escalation: we raise the problem, keep pushing for a resolution, and remove contractors who fail to put things right.
