The Mortaro way

A calmer way to have building work done

Most building projects turn on one thing: whether somebody picks up the phone. We do.

The contractors in our network are very good at the work itself. We run everything around it: the visit, the paperwork, the questions, the start date and the payments. Your contractor stays on the tools, and you always have someone to ask.

I

Appointed

A contractor from our network, suited to the job and your area, checked before they are introduced to you.

II

Quoted

They price the work after visiting. We prepare a clear written quotation that names them.

III

Kept informed

You speak to us throughout. We get the answers, so nobody has to chase a builder up a ladder.

IV

Administered

Your deposit and balance are passed to your contractor promptly, with a start date that suits you.

Before you commit

You will know exactly who is coming to your home

Your contractor is named in your written quotation. Before joining our network, they were checked for public liability insurance, reviews and references, the warranties they provide, their trade experience and work history, and their ability to meet our standards.

Every contractor in the network agrees to a minimum 12-month workmanship warranty. Larger works usually carry longer, and the exact terms are set out in your quotation.

How it works

From first call to final payment

Six stages, with one point of contact at every one of them: us.

Each stage in detail

  1. You tell us about the project

What needs doing, where, and when suits you. We work out which contractor in our network is right for the job.

  2. We arrange the site visit

Booked around you and confirmed, and you are told who is coming.

  3. You receive a written quotation

Your contractor prices the work; we prepare it as a clear written quotation that names them. Valid for 30 days, with no charge and no obligation.

  4. Deposit and start date

A 25% deposit secures the works. We pass it to your contractor and agree a start date that suits you.

  5. The work, with us alongside

Your contractor carries out the work. You keep talking to us, and we get the answers.

  6. Completion

The balance is due on completion, waste is removed, and your contractor's workmanship warranty usually runs from that date.

Why Mortaro

Why homeowners choose us over going it alone

Before you commitNamed

Your contractor is named in writing, in your quotation, before you agree to anything.

Before introductionChecked

Five named checks, from insurance to work history. More than most homeowners could realistically do alone.

ThroughoutAnswered

One point of contact for questions, timings, paperwork and updates, from first call to completion.

On priceComparable

Contractors price at trade rates, so your quotation is comparable to going direct, with the coordination included.

What people ask before they go ahead

All customer questions

What does Mortaro actually do?

We coordinate your project. We appoint a contractor from our network, arrange the site visit, prepare your written quotation, organise the start date, keep you updated throughout, administer the payments and escalate anything that needs putting right.

Is Mortaro Group the builder?

No. The work is carried out by an independent main contractor from our network, named in your quotation before you commit. Your construction contract is with them, and they hold the insurance and provide the warranty.

Does using Mortaro cost more?

Contractors in our network price at trade rates, so your quotation is comparable to approaching a contractor directly, with the coordination included. We will not claim to be the cheapest; anyone can be undercut.

Who do I pay?

Your payment is legally made to your contractor. We receive it as their payment administration agent and pass it on promptly; we do not hold client funds and we are not an escrow service. Payment is by bank transfer.

What if something needs putting right?

Tell us. The warranty sits with your contractor, and we chase it for you: we escalate on your behalf and keep at it until it is resolved. Contractors who do not put things right are removed from our network.

Which areas do you cover?

We coordinate projects across the UK. Availability depends on the area and the type of work, so tell us your postcode and we will confirm what we can arrange.
