Do You Take a Percentage of My Price?
Nothing comes out of your price. You quote your trade rate, our fee is added on top in the customer's quotation, and your rate is paid to you in full.
The short answer
Nothing comes out of your price. You're paid your trade rate in full.
No. You price the job at trade rate, we add our fee on top of that figure in the customer's quotation, and when the customer pays, your rate comes through to you in full. Nothing is deducted from what you quoted. There is no membership, no subscription and no charge per lead either.
We don't publish the size of our fee. The mechanism, though, is something you should understand properly before you join, so here it is.
The mechanism
How the money works on a job
You price at trade rate
After the site visit, you put your price together as you would for a trade customer and submit it to us.
We add our fee on top
We prepare the professional quotation for the customer. Its total is your trade rate plus our fee. Your figure isn't touched.
The customer accepts and pays a deposit
Customers pay a 25% deposit by bank transfer. It is paid to you as the main contractor, via Mortaro as payment administration agent, and passed on without unnecessary delay.
The balance follows on completion
The balance is collected when the work is complete and passed on to you the same way. Your trade rate reaches you in full.
Why on top
Why the fee sits on top of your price
Arrangements that take a cut of the contractor's price leave you two options: absorb the loss, or inflate your price to cover it. Both make the job harder to win. Putting our fee on top keeps your number intact. You price the work the way you would for trade, and the figure you submit is the figure you receive.
It keeps the customer's price sensible too. Because the base figure is a trade rate rather than a retail one, the quotation can usually land close to what a customer would expect going direct, with the coordination included. That's the reason we ask for trade rates. What rates do you expect? gives the short answer and trade rates explained goes deeper.
The figure
Why we keep the figure private
For the same reason you don't publish your margin. It is our commercial arrangement. What matters to you is that it never reduces your rate, and that it pays for work you would otherwise have to fund or do yourself.
That work is substantial: generating the enquiry, qualifying the customer, booking the site visit, preparing and issuing the quotation, following it up, organising start dates, handling customer communication throughout, and administering the deposit and balance. What Mortaro handles for contractors lists it in full.
Before the work
Nothing to pay before a job goes ahead
No membership or subscription
You don't pay to be in the network, monthly or annually.
No charge per lead
Opportunities you decline, and quotations that don't go ahead, cost you nothing. See do you charge for leads?
No deduction from your rate
Our fee is added to the customer's quotation. Your trade rate is paid in full. No upfront lead fees, explained covers the wider picture.
Compared
How this compares with paying for leads
On paid platforms the cost comes first and the work may or may not follow. Published figures put Bark at £6–£30 per connection, MyBuilder and Rated People at £15–£60 per lead, and Checkatrade at £600–£1,200 a year. Once you account for the jobs you don't win, the true cost per job won is commonly put at £150–£1,000.
Through Mortaro none of that is paid by you. Our fee exists only on jobs that go ahead, it sits in the customer's quotation, and your rate is untouched. You aren't funding enquiries that go nowhere.
That also changes the maths on smaller jobs. A repair that would barely cover a bought lead and the time spent chasing it is worth doing when there's nothing to recover before you start. You price it, attend it, do it well, and your rate arrives in full.
Platform pricing as published by Trades Grow, One Base Media, Sleepless Tradesman and SwiftLead, 2026. Rates change, so check current pricing before relying on these figures.
Deposits and balances are passed on to you without unnecessary delay once received. We act as payment administration agent and don't hold funds. See how do payments work? and the Work with Mortaro overview.

Fee questions
So how is your fee worked out?
We don't publish how it is calculated or how large it is. What we can say is that it is added on top of your trade rate, never taken out of it.
Do I still set my own price?
Yes. You survey the job and price it at trade rate. The scope and the pricing are yours; we turn them into the quotation the customer receives.
Do I pay anything if the customer doesn't accept?
No. There is nothing upfront and nothing to pay for quotations that don't go ahead.
