Do You Charge Contractors for Leads?
No. There is nothing to pay to join, nothing per enquiry and nothing when a quote doesn't convert. Our fee is added on top of your price, never taken out of it.
The short answer
No. You pay nothing to receive work from us, and nothing when a quote doesn't go ahead.
Mortaro does not charge contractors for leads. There is no joining fee, no membership, no monthly subscription and no charge per enquiry. If you survey a job, price it, and the customer decides not to proceed, it has cost you the time on the visit and nothing else.
We earn our fee on work that goes ahead, and it is added on top of your price in the customer's quotation. It never comes out of your figure. The rest of this page explains how that works, what it asks of you in return, and where it won't suit everyone. For the full background, see no upfront lead fees, explained.
How we earn
Our fee sits on top of your price
After the site visit you put your quote together at trade rate and send it to us. We turn it into a professional written quotation for the customer and add our fee on top of your figure. When the customer pays, you are paid your rate in full. Nothing is deducted.
That means our income depends on the job actually happening. We have no reason to push enquiries at you that won't convert, and every reason to make sure the ones we pass on are genuine, qualified and properly followed up.
We don't publish the percentage, and the reasons are covered in do you take a percentage? What matters to you is the mechanism: your trade rate is yours, and it arrives intact. How to set that rate is covered in trade rates explained.
What free means here
No charge, at any stage
Nothing to join
No application fee, no membership and no annual renewal. Being in the network costs you nothing, whether you take one job a year or several a month.
Nothing per enquiry
You are not billed when an opportunity is offered to you, when you accept it, or when you attend the site visit. Declining an opportunity costs nothing either.
Nothing for quotes that don't convert
Customers sometimes decide not to go ahead. When that happens you have lost an hour or two on site, not a fee on top. That is the risk we carry instead of you.

Why we work this way
We appoint a contractor, we don't sell an enquiry
A paid platform earns its money when you pay for access, whether or not the job happens. Some of them sell a single enquiry to several tradespeople, so you are paying to enter a race. That model is legitimate and plenty of contractors use it well. It is simply a different business from ours.
We generate the enquiries ourselves and appoint one contractor per enquiry. Nobody else is quoting against you for that job through us. If you'd like the fuller distinction, read is Mortaro a lead generation company? and is the work exclusive?
Because we only earn when work goes ahead, we also do the parts that make it go ahead: qualifying the customer, booking the visit, presenting your price properly, chasing the decision and administering the payments.
Free to join does not mean no expectations. You price at trade rate, respond to new opportunities the same day, attend the site visits we book and deal professionally with customers. Those standards are what the customer's trust in the network rests on, and they decide how much work comes your way.

Straight answers
Questions about cost
Is there a charge to apply?
No. Joining is invite-led and starts with a short enquiry about your business. There is no fee at any point. See how do I join the network?
Does turning down a job cost me anything?
No. Declining is fine and carries no charge and no penalty. What we ask is that you tell us either way, rather than leaving the opportunity unanswered.
Do you take a cut of my price?
No. Our fee is added on top of your trade rate in the customer's quotation. You are paid your figure in full. More on the wider arrangement on the contractor network hub.
