How Do I Join the Network?
Start with an enquiry about your business. If it looks like a fit, we invite you to apply. It's free to join, with no membership or lead fees.
The short answer
Start with an enquiry. Tell us about your business, and if it looks like a fit we'll invite you to apply.
Joining is invite-led. There's no open application form: you send us an enquiry about your business, a person reads it, and if your trade and area look like a fit, we send you the full application and talk through areas, rates and standards. The checks are completed before you're introduced to any customer. It's free throughout, with no joining fee, membership or subscription.
Why invite-led? Because the network's value to customers rests on the contractors in it. Keeping the door narrow is what lets us say the checks mean something.
It also saves you time. There's no point filling in a full application only to learn we don't coordinate your kind of work in your area. The enquiry lets us have that conversation first.
Your enquiry
What to tell us about your business
Keep it practical. These are the things that help us judge fit quickly.
Your trade
What you do and the jobs you do best. Most of our current work is roofing, skylights and larger domestic construction, though the model isn't limited to particular trades.
Where you work
The towns or postcodes you can reach reliably. Coverage is UK-wide and confirmed by postcode. See which areas can I cover?
Your insurance
Whether you hold public liability insurance. It is the first of the checks.
Your track record
How long you've been trading and the kind of work you've completed.
Reviews and references
Where customers have reviewed you, and past customers who would speak for your work.
Your warranty
The workmanship warranty you give. Across the network the minimum is 12 months, and longer is typical on larger works.
Fit
Is the network right for you?
It suits contractors who are good at the work and would rather hand over the enquiries, quotations, chasing and payment administration. What Mortaro handles for contractors sets out exactly what that covers.
It asks something in return: a same-day reply to new opportunities, quotes on smaller jobs aimed within about 48 hours, and turning up to the site visits you accept. If those standards would frustrate you, it's better to know now. What we need from contractors lists them.
It runs on trade rates. You price at trade, our fee goes on top in the customer's quotation, and you're paid your rate in full. What rates do you expect? explains why.
A person reads it
We look at whether your trade and area fit the work we coordinate.
If it's a fit, we invite you to apply
We send the full application and talk through areas, rates and standards with you.
Checks, then introductions
The checks are completed before you are introduced to any customer.
Once you are in
What working through the network looks like
Opportunities are offered to you one at a time, and you accept or decline each one. Declining carries no penalty. When you accept, we book the site visit around your availability and the customer's, and tell the customer who is coming.
You survey the job and submit your trade-rate price. We prepare the quotation, name you as the appointed main contractor, issue it and follow it up. When the customer accepts, we organise the start date, handle communication while you're working, and pass the deposit and balance on to you without unnecessary delay.
You carry out the work under your own company name, hold your own insurance and provide the workmanship warranty. The construction contract is between you and the customer.
Public liability insurance. Reviews and references. The warranties or guarantees you provide. Trade experience and prior work history. Your ability to meet our standards. What documents do I need? explains what supports each one.
Straight answers
Joining questions

The full application is sent by invitation once we've read your enquiry. Starting with an enquiry saves us both time if the fit isn't there.
Which trades do you work with?
Most of our current work is roofing, skylight installation and larger domestic construction. The model isn't limited to particular trades, so if your trade sits outside those, tell us about it in your enquiry anyway.
Do I pay for the checks?
No. Joining is free. There's no joining fee, membership, subscription or charge per lead.
Do I need to cover the whole country?
No. You cover the areas you can reach reliably. Our work is UK-wide, and coverage is confirmed postcode by postcode.
Is there a fee to join?
No. No joining fee, membership, subscription or charge per lead. The full arrangement is on the Work with Mortaro page.
