Which Areas Can I Cover?

Our work is UK-wide. You tell us where you can realistically work, and we confirm coverage postcode by postcode.

The short answer

We coordinate work across the UK. You tell us where you can realistically work, and we confirm it postcode by postcode.

There are no fixed territories to buy into and no regions you have to sign up to. Mortaro's work is UK-wide. The areas you cover are the ones you can reach reliably, for the site visit and for the job itself, and we talk those through with you when you apply. Whether we can send you work in a particular place is confirmed postcode by postcode, not promised in advance.

That's the honest version. The rest of this page explains how your area affects what you're sent, and why a tight area you can service beats a wide one you can't.

Setting your area

Draw it around where you can actually turn up

The most useful area is not the largest one. It is the one where you can attend a site visit at short notice, come back for a second look, and put a defect right without it becoming a day trip. A contractor who covers a smaller patch properly is worth more to customers, and to us, than one who ticks every box on the map and then struggles to attend.

Think about the practical limits. How far will you travel for a survey you might not win? How far can your team commute for a job that runs several days? Would you be happy driving back to put something right under your warranty? The answers to those questions are your area.

Larger jobs can change the sums. You might happily travel further for a full roof replacement or an extension that runs for weeks than for a small repair. That's worth telling us when we talk through your area, because it affects which opportunities make sense to offer you and which would only waste your diesel.

If you run more than one team, the answer might be different for each of them. That's fine. What matters is that whoever is offered a job in a given postcode can actually attend the visit, carry out the work and come back if needed. An area described honestly is the one that leads to the best track record, and track record is what decides how much you're offered.

What distance affects

Three things your area has to support

Site visits

You need to reach the customer for the survey, usually at a time that suits them. Distant visits are the ones most likely to slip. See site visit expectations.

Warranty call-backs

The workmanship warranty is yours, with a minimum of 12 months across the network. You need to be able to come back if something needs putting right.

Replying quickly

We ask for a reply to a new opportunity the same day. That is easier when you know the area and can say yes or no without checking a route planner. See response time standards.

Area and volume

How your area shapes the work you're sent

Opportunities arise where customers need work done, so how much reaches you depends partly on where you are. We don't publish enquiry numbers by area, and we won't claim steady volume in a place before it exists. How much work can you provide? gives the straight answer on volume.

Within an area, we aim for one or two highly reliable contractors taking most of the work, rather than spreading it thinly across many firms or piling it all onto one. Who those contractors are is decided by track record, as set out in how opportunities are allocated.

An area is also not a territory you own. Each enquiry goes to one appointed contractor and is never shared, but we don't reserve patches for individual firms. Is the work exclusive? covers this properly.

The conversation

What we talk through about your area

Coverage is discussed after your enquiry, alongside rates and standards.

Useful for you to tell us

  • The towns or postcodes you work in most
  • How far you'll travel for a site visit
  • How far you'll travel for a job that runs several days
  • Whether that changes for larger projects
  • The trades you cover

What we confirm with you

  • Whether we can send you work in those postcodes
  • The kinds of job we coordinate
  • How allocation works
  • The standards that apply wherever you work
Where to start

Area is one of the first things we discuss once you're in touch. What happens after I apply? sets out the order of things, how do I join the network? explains the first step, and the full arrangement is on the Work with Mortaro page.

Straight answers

Coverage questions

Do you cover my part of the country?

Our work is UK-wide. Tell us the postcodes you cover and we'll confirm whether we can send you opportunities there.

Do I get an exclusive territory?

No. One contractor is appointed to each enquiry and enquiries are never shared, but areas are not reserved for individual contractors.

Can I cover more than one area?

Yes, if you can reach each of them reliably. Being straight about travel serves you better than a wide map you can't service.

What if nothing comes up in my postcodes?

Then we tell you plainly rather than keep you waiting on work that isn't there. Nothing is paid upfront, so an area with no enquiries costs you nothing.

For contractors

Tell us about your business

Your trade, the areas you cover and the size of work you take on. A person reads every enquiry, and if it looks like a fit we will send you the full application.
