Is the Work Exclusive to One Contractor?

Each enquiry goes to one appointed contractor and is never sold or shared. Areas, though, are not reserved for any single firm.

The short answer

Each enquiry goes to one appointed contractor. It is never sold or shared with anyone else.

When we offer you a job, you're not one of four firms racing to ring the customer first. We appoint one contractor from our network to each enquiry, and that's the only contractor the customer hears from about it. If you accept, the job is yours to survey and price. If you decline, we offer it to someone else.

What it doesn't mean is exclusive territory. We don't reserve areas for individual contractors or give anyone first refusal on everything in a patch. Both halves matter, so this page covers both.

One per enquiry

What being the only contractor means for you

On the main paid platforms, a single enquiry is commonly sold to several tradespeople. The customer gets a run of calls, the fastest or cheapest usually wins, and everyone else has paid for nothing. The network doesn't work that way.

Because you're the only contractor appointed, you can survey properly, price accurately at trade rate and leave the quotation to us, without undercutting yourself to beat firms who never saw the job. The customer is told who is coming, and your company is named in their quotation as the appointed main contractor. See who writes the quotation?

It also means our interest is in the job going ahead and being done well, not in how many times an enquiry can be sold. That's why we follow up the quotation and handle customer communication while you're on the tools.

Why it works

Why one contractor per enquiry suits everyone

You price properly

With nobody else quoting through us for the same job, you can price it accurately at trade rate instead of shaving your margin to win a race.

The customer hears one voice

Customers aren't rung by several firms after one enquiry. They're told who is coming and deal with us throughout, which keeps them calm and ready to decide.

Your time counts

A site visit you attend is for a job only you have been appointed to. The survey, the price and the time you put in aren't spent on a coin toss.

Where the line sits

What's yours, and what stays open

Yours, once appointed

  • The enquiry you've accepted
  • The site visit and survey
  • Your price and technical scope
  • Your company named on the quotation
  • The construction contract with the customer

Not reserved for any one firm

  • A postcode or area
  • First refusal on future enquiries
  • A fixed share of work in a place
  • Enquiries you've declined

Areas

Why areas stay open

We aim for one or two highly reliable contractors in each area taking most of the work. That's deliberate. If one contractor held an area outright, a busy month, a holiday or an illness would leave customers waiting with nobody to offer the job to. Two reliable contractors keep work moving and stop anyone being overloaded.

In practice, the contractors with the strongest record are offered the most in their area. That comes from how you perform, not from a clause in an agreement. How opportunities are allocated explains it in full, and how are jobs allocated? gives the quick version.

Coverage itself is UK-wide and confirmed postcode by postcode. See which areas can I cover?

After you accept

What being appointed commits you to

Being the only contractor on a job carries a responsibility with it. If you accept and then go quiet, there's nobody else already lined up, and the customer is left waiting. That's why the standards matter: a same-day reply to new opportunities, attending the site visit, pricing promptly, and telling us early if anything changes.

If you can't continue with a job after accepting it, tell us straight away so we can appoint someone else and keep the customer informed. A contractor who communicates is treated very differently from one who simply disappears. A contractor who misses their first site visit without good reason or communication is removed from the network.

Declining passes the job on

If a job doesn't suit you, decline it and we'll offer it to another contractor in the network. There's no penalty for doing so. See can I choose which jobs I take?
