How Much Work Can You Provide?
It depends on your area, your trade and your track record with us. We won't promise a number, and nothing is paid upfront while the picture becomes clear.
The honest answer
It depends on your area, your trade and your track record. Reliable contractors are sent more.
The direct answer is that we don't commit to a volume, and we won't quote you a figure before we know where you work, what you do and how you perform. How much comes through depends on three things: whether enquiries arise in your area, whether they suit your trade, and your track record with us once you've started. The third is the one you control, and it moves quickly.
Nothing is paid upfront, so a quiet month costs you nothing. That is a real difference from a subscription you pay whether the work arrives or not.
What decides it
The three things that set your volume
Your area
Work arises where customers need it. Coverage is UK-wide and confirmed postcode by postcode, and some places produce more enquiries than others. See which areas can I cover?
Your trade
Most of our current work is roofing, skylights and larger domestic construction. The model isn't limited to particular trades, but contractors in those areas will usually see more opportunities today.
Your track record
Fast replies, clear communication, professional conduct with customers and completed work. This is how allocation decides who is offered the next job.
Allocation
Why reliability earns more work
We aim for one or two highly reliable contractors in each area taking most of the work. Becoming one of them isn't about how long you've been in the network or how many jobs you accept. It's about what happens after you say yes: whether you attend the site visit, price it promptly, keep us told, and deliver work the customer is happy with.
A contractor who joins, attends one visit and then goes quiet will be offered less. A contractor who completes several jobs well becomes the obvious choice when the next enquiry comes in nearby. How opportunities are allocated sets out the full picture, and contractor response time standards covers the part that matters most early on.
We also avoid overloading anyone. Sending one firm more than it can handle is how standards slip, and that serves nobody: not the contractor, not the customer, and not us.
The early jobs matter most. Anyone can make a good impression when they sign up. The first few opportunities are where we see how quickly you reply, whether you attend, how promptly you price and how the customer rates working with you. Get those right and the record builds on its own. Established contractors with a good history are also given latitude for the occasional missed visit or slow quote, because they reschedule and tell us.
The cost side
What a quiet spell costs you
On paid lead platforms you pay whether the work arrives or not. Published figures put Checkatrade membership at £600–£1,200 a year and MyBuilder or Rated People leads at £15–£60 each, often shared with other trades. Through Mortaro there is no membership, no subscription and no charge per lead. If a month is quiet, you have lost nothing but the time you spent elsewhere.
That changes how to think about volume. Until you know what your area produces, it makes sense to treat Mortaro as one source of work alongside your own rather than the only thing filling your diary. No upfront lead fees, explained covers the cost side in detail.
Platform pricing as published by Trades Grow, One Base Media, Sleepless Tradesman and SwiftLead, 2026. Rates change, so check current pricing before relying on these figures.
Before you start
What we can tell you before you join
We can tell you whether we coordinate work in your postcodes, what kind of work that tends to be, and how allocation works. We can explain the standards that decide who is offered more. What we can't do is turn that into a monthly number and stand behind it, because enquiries arise when customers need work, not on a schedule.
What we can say with confidence is how the work you do receive is handled. It comes to you as a booked appointment, not a phone number to chase. You price it at trade rate, and we prepare and issue the quotation, follow it up and administer the payments. The volume varies. The way each job is run doesn't.
If a network promises a set number of jobs a month before it knows your area, your trade or how reliable you are, it is worth asking how. We would rather tell you it depends, and let the work speak once you've started.
Straight answers
Volume questions
Can you tell me roughly how many jobs I'll get?
Not before we know where you work and what you do. Once you've been in touch, we talk through your area and the kind of work we coordinate there, honestly.
Do I get more work if I accept every job?
No. Turning work down carries no penalty. Allocation follows responsiveness, communication, professionalism and completed work. See can I choose which jobs I take?
What is the quickest way to be offered more?
Reply the same day, attend your visits, price promptly and do good work. How do I get work through Mortaro? and the Work with Mortaro page cover the rest.
